Isaiah 61:1-2
Starr Battle is a daughter of Christ. Her personal mission is “Be valiant and intentional in the pursuit of excellence, integrity and collective accountability.” She is a fourth-generation member of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
She received the Bachelor of Arts degree (cum laude) in 2001 from North Carolina Central University (NCCU) with a major in Political Science and minor in Business Administration. She obtained a Master of Arts in History in 2011 from NCCU with a thesis topic of “Lest We Forget: The History of Kittrell College 1888-1976.” In 2015, Starr received her Juris Doctorate from NC Central University School of Law, where she is active in various organizations within the university including the President of the Black Law Student Association, Marshall of Phi Alpha Delta International Law Fraternity, American Bar Association, Family Law & Veterans Law Clinic.
Starr serves as the Deputy Clerk at the NC Office of Administrative Hearings and is the Executive Director of a women’s empowerment group True Authority, LLC. She enjoys training and working with youth and young adults within the church and community. In the AME Church, Starr has served in various capacities at all levels of the Connection. She is a member on the AME Judicial Council.
Starr was raised in Apex, NC. She is the wife of Leonard A. Flake, the eldest daughter of Reverend Milton and Doris Taylor Battle. Starr is the older sister to Renisha, Charity, and Lisa (Keith) and the auntie of Little Delaney Ann Marie and Leonard Rier IV. As a daughter of Itinerant Elder, Starr was able to worship and serve in various churches. She is currently writing two books: “Surviving the Church Pew”, a memoir regarding the triumphs and perils of a Pastor kid and a children’s devotion entitled, “Who Loves you so Very Much?”
